New Delhi, Jun 5: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent swipe at the Modi government—accusing it of “surrendering” under US pressure while Operation Sindoor was ongoing—has sparked a heated political row, drawing fierce condemnation from the BJP and igniting Pakistani propaganda.
The controversy erupted after Gandhi, speaking at a party event, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “surrendered” to the US President’s signals, a comment that BJP leaders say undermines India’s sovereignty and national security. BJP spokespersons were quick to seize on the remarks, accusing Gandhi of echoing Pakistani propaganda lines and “becoming the poster boy for Islamabad’s anti-India narrative.”

The controversy escalated further when videos surfaced on Pakistani media platforms, with Pakistani Defence Minister Khwaja exploiting Gandhi’s comments to lash out at the Indian government. “I haven’t seen such a brazen attack on any government by its own leader,” he said in a video that went viral, trying to deflect from Pakistan’s military setbacks during Operation Sindoor.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned Gandhi’s remarks, calling them a betrayal of the nation’s interests. “There is also a limit to stupidity and opposition! There’s nobody in Congress Party to tell him that being in the Opposition Party does not mean opposing the nation,” Rijiju posted on X.
This isn’t the first time Rahul Gandhi’s remarks have been weaponised by Pakistan’s propaganda machinery. Another video circulating on Pakistani news channels features Gandhi equating Hindutva with violence—a statement that Pakistani Defence Minister Khwaja again cited to further his anti-India rhetoric.
Gandhi and his party have consistently accused the Modi government of caving to US pressure and announcing a ceasefire with Pakistan despite continued aggression. However, Indian officials have maintained that the ceasefire was agreed upon only after Pakistan “begged for it,” following decisive operations by Indian security forces.
Operation Sindoor, launched to combat cross-border terrorism, continues to be a major talking point in India’s counterterrorism efforts. But the opposition’s statements and their echo in Pakistan’s media highlight the high political stakes in this ongoing narrative battle.
