Mangaluru, Jun 4: Lourdes Central School held a comprehensive four-day staff enrichment programme designed to update teachers on emerging technologies and support their personal and professional development.
The programme began on Monday, May 26, with the inauguration and blessing of the newly renovated administration office and computer laboratory.
The ceremony was led by the manager, Dr John Baptist Saldanha, and the principal, Fr Johnson L Sequeira, with a ribbon-cutting. They were joined by Fr Peter Mascarenhas, Dr Vincent Sequeira, Fr Norman Mathais, Fr Joseph Arul Joseph, vice principals Belita Mascarenhas and Anita Thomas, management committee members, and faculty.
The event began with a prayer song by the staff choir, followed by a prayer service led by Fr Peter Mascarenhas and Fr Arul Joseph. Fr Johnson L Sequeira welcomed the gathering, and Dr John Baptist Saldanha, in his presidential address, shared inspiring anecdotes on responsibility and wise use of resources.
A staff meeting was held in the LCS conference hall. Dr Saldanha addressed the staff, stressing the importance of quality teaching, positive classroom management, communication with parents, and respect for diversity.
A brief orientation for new staff followed, introducing them to the school’s values and expectations. The principal led a meeting outlining plans and responsibilities for the academic year.
In the afternoon, a training session on Parrophins, the school’s new communication app, was conducted by Shobit Rai. The resource person, provided a comprehensive demonstration on the app’s features and functionalities. The session aimed to equip the staff with the necessary skills to efficiently navigate and utilize the platform for effective communication with students and parents, and administrative tasks.
On May 28 School conducted a CBSE Capacity Building Programme on stress management for teachers. The programme took a symbolic start with the lighting of the lamp, signifying the illumination of knowledge and wisdom. The resource persons Vandana S Nayak and Alpa Shah, delivered an engaging and interactive session, incorporating activity-based learning, discussions, and communicative methods. Participants gained practical strategies to manage stress and enhance well-being.
A seminar on "AI Tools in Education" was conducted on May 29, with the objective of empowering teachers to integrate AI tools into their classroom practices. The aim was to enhance teaching methods, foster a tech-savvy environment, and enrich the learning experience for students.
The resource team from St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, led by Dr Hareesh B and his colleagues, conducted the session. Principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira urged teachers to move beyond traditional methods and embrace AI for 21st-century education.
A hands-on session in the newly renovated computer lab introduced teachers to tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Khanmingo.ai, Sora GPT, and more. Teachers from Milagres Central School also participated, fostering collaboration. The resource team shared best practices and strategies for effectively incorporating AI into everyday teaching.
On May 30, a session on personality management was conducted for the teachers of Lourdes Central School by Ratna Sagar Publications.
Fr Johnson L Sequeira, the principal addressed the gathering and emphasized the crucial role teachers play in shaping students’ personalities, stating that students often emulate their teachers. Therefore, enhancing one's personality can make a meaningful difference in students’ lives.
Sushila Vedula — principal of a CBSE School in Visakhapatnam led an enriching session focusing on emotional control, managing one’s environment, and understanding how our personality influences those around us. Teachers participated enthusiastically, contributing to a meaningful exchange.
The week-long workshop concluded on a highly positive note, with all sessions proving to be informative and inspiring for the teaching staff. Each session, including the personality management talk, provided valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance both professional and personal growth. The active participation and enthusiasm of the teachers throughout the workshop reflected their commitment to self-improvement and excellence in education.
