BJP slams Rahul's 'Surrender' claim on Modi-Trump call

New Delhi, Jun 3: A fresh political row erupted on Tuesday after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of 'surrendering' during the military conflict with Pakistan and Operation Sindoor, allegedly under pressure from former US President Donald Trump.

Speaking at an event in Bhopal, Gandhi claimed, “A call came from Trump and Narendra ji immediately surrendered – history is witness to this. The BJP-RSS always bows down.” He contrasted this with Congress' 1971 war legacy, asserting that “the lions and lionesses of Congress” stood firm even in the face of US threats.

Responding sharply, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia took to X, calling Gandhi a 'blunder' and dismissing his remarks as baseless.

The controversy comes amid lingering questions over Trump's claims of playing a key role in securing the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Just before the announcement of the ceasefire, Trump had posted on Truth Social crediting his administration for brokering peace.

India, however, firmly denied any foreign role. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri clarified that the ceasefire was a result of direct military communication. “It was Indian military action that made Pakistan say: We are ready to stop,” Jaishankar asserted.

The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of undermining the Indian armed forces with politically motivated statements, while Congress continues to attack the Modi government over its handling of the conflict.
