New Delhi, May 31: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday underscored the duty of tax officials to serve taxpayers with “transparency and integrity,” emphasizing that such conduct is vital to building trust and confidence.
Her statement came via a post on X, following a detailed explanation by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) concerning a delay in GST registration processing.
The applicant, identified as Vinod Gupta, had shared his grievance on LinkedIn regarding the delay. The CBIC clarified on X that the application, filed on May 26, was with Delhi State GST authorities — not the Central GST authorities.

The delay was due to the applicant’s failure to respond to a query seeking the designation of the person who had signed the Rent Agreement on behalf of the company. The application, according to CBIC, is pending until the required information is provided.
“Confident that the Board and the field formations will remain sensitive and responsive,” Sitharaman wrote, reinforcing her commitment to fair and efficient tax administration.
CBIC also urged the applicant to avoid circulating inaccurate information on social media without verifying the facts.
