Margao, May 27: With frequent power outages crippling normal life across three villages in South Goa, representatives from the panchayats of Chinchinim, Dramapur, and Sarzora met with Electricity Department officials on Monday, demanding immediate intervention and infrastructure upgrades.

Led by Chinchinim Sarpanch Frank Viegas, Dramapur Deputy Sarpanch Avita Vaz, and Sarzora Sarpanch Leona Fernandes, the delegation submitted formal representations calling for uninterrupted power supply, especially during night hours, which they said were severely affected by staff shortages and lack of vehicles.

“One of the major concerns is the lack of staff at night to attend to faults, resulting in prolonged blackouts,” said Avita Vaz, highlighting the impact on essential services and daily life.

Currently, only one service vehicle caters to all three panchayats a situation termed ‘highly inadequate’ given the population and geographic spread of the area. The panchayats are now demanding a dedicated service vehicle for Dramapur, an increase in night shift personnel, and provision of tools like ladders for emergency response.

The delegation also stressed the need for regular tree-trimming operations to reduce weather-induced power disruptions.

Offering full support, Sarpanch Frank Viegas said the panchayats were ready to collaborate with the Electricity Department to end the persistent crisis that has been inconveniencing villagers.

The Electricity Department has assured that the grievances will be addressed and appropriate steps will be taken to enhance power reliability in the region.
