Panaji, May 26: In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage across Goa’s academic circles, a final-year student of the Goa Dental College and Hospital has been booked for criminal trespass and voyeurism after he was allegedly caught attempting to record videos of female students inside the girls’ hostel.

According to the complaint filed by the Girls’ Hostel Secretary, the incident took place on May 19 at the college hostel in Bambolim. The accused, who resides on the college campus, allegedly sneaked into the ground floor area of the girls’ hostel and tried to spy on female inmates as they bathed, using his mobile phone through a bathroom window.

The matter came to light when hostel residents grew suspicious and alerted authorities. The complaint, promptly lodged with local police, has resulted in a case being registered against the student under sections related to criminal trespass and invasion of privacy.

College authorities and student welfare officials have reportedly assured full cooperation with the police investigation and stated that appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated once the probe is complete.

Meanwhile, students and parents have raised concerns about safety and privacy on campus, demanding stricter surveillance measures and accountability.

Police have confirmed that the accused will be summoned for questioning, and further action will follow based on forensic analysis of his mobile phone and any recovered digital evidence.

The incident has cast a shadow over the institution’s reputation, prompting calls for zero tolerance towards such offences and improved hostel security protocols.
