Kulur Catholic Sabha builds new home for needy family as part of silver jubilee milestone

Mangaluru, May 26: In a landmark community initiative, the Catholic Sabha, Kulur unit, celebrated the successful completion of its housing project by organizing a housewarming ceremony for a needy family, as part of its silver jubilee celebrations. The Rs 15 lac project marks the first-of-its-kind home construction effort by the Catholic Sabha within the diocese of Mangalore.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including bishop emeritus of the diocese of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, who led the house blessing and prayer service. The inauguration ceremony included a ribbon-cutting and the official handover of keys to the family.

Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, parish priest of St Antony Church Kulur, presided over the event, while Fr John Vas, spiritual director of the episcopal deanery, was the chief guest. Notable attendees included MCC Bank chairman Anil Lobo, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd managing director Walter Nandalike, episcopal deanery president Ida Furtado, and several other community leaders and members of the Catholic Sabha.

During the ceremony, traditional housewarming rituals were observed, including milk boiling and the placing of new household items. Donors who contributed to the construction were felicitated with shawls and tokens of appreciation. Deepak D’Souza, contractor and All India Catholic Union National Coordinator for Minority Affairs (Karnataka Region), was specially honored for his contributions.

Bishop emeritus Dr Aloysius Dsouza lauded the Catholic Sabha Kulur Unit for their pioneering effort, calling it a 'historic and inspirational project'. Speaking on the occasion, Walter Nandalike praised the unity and dedication of the Kulur unit. “This is not just a house; it is a symbol of collective compassion. What makes it stand out is not just the construction, but the mindset of the team — always ready to help those in need,” he said. He further remarked that the house built was of “Three Star level” quality, reflecting the professionalism and commitment of the team involved. “This success is the fruit of your unity, vision, and consistent hard work,” he added.

Anil Lobo, underscored the importance of community service and maintaining a spirit of generosity and prayer. Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, in his presidential address, expressed gratitude to all contributors, including family members Lavina and Royce, contractor Deepak D’Souza, project convener and current unit president Rowin D’Souza, former president Philomena Veigas, and all current and former office bearers of the Kulur unit.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by unit secretary Savitha Veigas, and was compered by Clevita D’Souza.

This initiative stands as a shining example of the Catholic Sabha Kulur unit’s enduring commitment to social responsibility, community upliftment, and spiritual service.
