Panaji, May 26: In a major academic development, Goa University has officially commenced the admission process for PhD programmes for the academic year 2024-25. The university will accept online applications until June 3, with interviews scheduled for June 11 and 12, and the final list of selected candidates expected to be declared by June 17, according to an official notification.
This year, hundreds of PhD seats have been announced across both general and professional disciplines, spread across prestigious research centres and affiliated institutes. These include the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa College of Engineering, Goa College of Pharmacy, and Goa College of Music, among others.
The PhD programmes cover a wide array of research domains ranging from deep sea and estuarine geochemical studies, disability and gender studies, biological oceanography, pharmaceutical sciences, and law, to niche areas like Hindustani classical music and Marathi feminist literature.
The university has made it clear that candidates qualifying through national level tests such as UGC-NET, UGC-CSIR NET, GATE, CEED, or any similar tests recognised by UGC, will be admitted based on interviews. Those who have cleared NET/SET for lectureship are also eligible, with selection involving 70% weightage to test scores and 30% to the interview.
Candidates who do not fall under the above categories can still appear for the university's entrance test, and based on the results, they will be eligible for the interview round. Each applicant can apply for up to three programmes through the e-Samarth portal, the university has stated.
Additionally, the university has mandated that each PhD candidate must reside within Goa University's territorial jurisdiction during the first three years of the research period leading to the doctoral degree.
