Mumbai, May 18: Former Bollywood actress and human rights advocate Somy Ali has donated $1,000 to the PM CARES Fund in a show of solidarity with the victims of recent violence in Kashmir. The heartfelt gesture, she says, is her way of honoring the families affected by the unrest and supporting the soldiers who risk their lives daily.
“India has always held a special place in my heart,” said Ali. “This donation is a small tribute to the victims, their families, and our brave Jawans. I believe in justice and healing, and I hope this contribution reflects a shared humanity that rises above politics, religion, and borders.”
Ali emphasized that while her contribution may seem modest compared to the sacrifices made on the ground, it is rooted in compassion. “Let India respond not only with strength but also with compassion,” she added.
Known for her activism, Ali heads the US-based NGO No More Tears and has also founded a justice-oriented movement called Somyism. Her recent efforts extend beyond charity, as she continues to advocate for education and empowerment, especially for girls in South Asia.
Addressing the future of Pakistan, her country of birth, she stressed the need to invest in innovation and education. “Girls from Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Hyderabad could be the next AI analysts, UX designers, or filmmakers working globally. It’s already happening in places like Bangladesh, Kenya, and Vietnam. Pakistan can and should be part of that future.”
Ali envisions a transformation where women launch ethical AI platforms and creative ventures that not only bring economic growth but also uplift entire communities — proving that change, she believes, begins with empowerment.
