Bengaluru, May 17: In a shocking act of violence, a young software engineer lost his life after being deliberately hit by a car near Konanakunte Cross in the early hours of May 10. The incident, which has sent shockwaves across the city, was captured on CCTV footage and has now led to the arrest of the accused.

The deceased, Sanjay, a native of Hassan, was a software professional working in Bengaluru. His friend Chetan, hailing from Uttara Kannada and also a software engineer, sustained severe injuries in the incident. Both were standing near a tea stall after finishing their late-night work-from-home shift when the tragedy occurred.

According to police reports, Prateek, a sales manager from a private company on Magadi Road, was returning from a birthday party in RR Nagar along with his wife when he stopped near the tea stall. He allegedly asked the duo to fetch him cigarettes. When they refused and told him to get it himself, a verbal spat ensued.

Locals intervened and managed to cool down the situation. However, as Sanjay and Chetan left the spot on a Yamaha R15 bike, Prateek allegedly followed them in his Creta SUV. As the bike took a U-turn, Prateek rammed into them with great force. The impact threw the bike into a shutter nearby, severely injuring both riders.

Sanjay was rushed to the hospital in a critical state and fought for his life for several days. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries two days ago. In a selfless gesture, Sanjay’s family chose to donate his organs, bringing hope to others even in their darkest hour. His grieving family has also received financial support following the tragedy.

Subrahmanyapura police have registered a case of murder and arrested the accused Prateek. Investigations revealed that Prateek’s wife had attempted to defuse the situation and was shocked when he went on to commit the fatal act.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about escalating violence and intolerance in urban settings. A promising life was cut short, and a grieving family now seeks justice as Bengaluru mourns yet another senseless loss.
