Chandigarh, May 16: In a major breakthrough against trans-border narcotics trafficking, the Punjab Police on Friday dismantled a Pakistan-based, ISI-controlled narco-smuggling module, seizing a massive 85 kilograms of heroin and arresting the India-based operative linked to the international drug syndicate.
This is being termed as the biggest drug seizure of 2025 in Punjab so far.
The operation was spearheaded by the Tarn Taran Police, who apprehended Amarjot Singh alias Jota Sandhu, a resident of Bhittewad village in Amritsar Rural, acting on actionable intelligence inputs. According to police, Amarjot was the key ground handler and link for Lalli, a UK-based drug trafficker who orchestrated the operation through handlers in Pakistan, with reported backing from Pakistan’s notorious spy agency ISI.
“The accused was receiving heroin consignments from across the border and distributing them across Punjab. His residence functioned as a major stash point for the syndicate,” revealed Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav in a post on social media platform X.
The consignment is believed to have been sent via drones and cross-border operatives, a modus operandi increasingly being used by Pakistani handlers to bypass conventional surveillance systems along the India-Pakistan border. Intelligence sources say Amarjot coordinated logistics and local distribution channels, ensuring smooth flow of narcotics across districts in Punjab.
The heroin recovered is estimated to be worth hundreds of crores in the international market.
The revelation of ISI involvement has once again reignited concerns over Pakistan’s persistent attempts to destabilize Punjab through narcotics and terror-linked smuggling networks.
DGP Yadav hailed the bust as a major victory in the state’s war against drugs, vowing to continue cracking down on transnational drug syndicates with iron-handed resolve.
“Our fight against drugs will remain relentless. Punjab Police is committed to dismantling every link in this dangerous network,” he said.
Further investigations are underway to identify other local operatives, possible funding sources, and cross-border facilitators. Security has been heightened in border districts as Punjab Police coordinate with central agencies to uncover the full extent of the international narco-web.
This successful operation not only delivers a strong message to smuggling networks but also underscores the critical need for vigilant border monitoring and international cooperation in tackling the growing threat of narco-terrorism.
