Rahul Gandhi vows to push for reservation in private education, slams Modi over caste census

Daijiworld Media Network - Darbhanga

Darbhanga, May 15: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday pledged to fight for extending reservations to private educational institutions, asserting his commitment to securing rights for marginalized communities.

Speaking at a public event, Gandhi said, “I will demand reservations in private institutions. I will ensure you are not distracted and that you get what is rightfully yours. You must recognize your strength.”

He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of caste census. “I asked the PM in Parliament to conduct a caste census. Under pressure and fear of the public, he announced it—but in reality, he is against both the caste census and the Constitution,” Gandhi said, adding that the government prioritizes the interests of industrialists like Adani and Ambani over the people.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi claimed Bihar Police attempted to stop him from visiting the Ambedkar hostel in Darbhanga, where he was to meet with students. “They tried, but failed—because the youth of this country are with me,” he said.

There should be fair balance between reservation and merit. Reservation has to exclude the creamy layer within lower castes and also include economically backward among other castes. unless this is done it only an electoral gimmick.
