New Delhi, May 14: Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch has publicly asserted that Balochistan was never a part of Pakistan, citing a long history of “air bombings, enforced disappearances, and genocide” committed by the Pakistani state. In a series of posts on social media, Mir urged Indian media and commentators to stop referring to Balochs as “Pakistan’s own people.”
“We declared our independence on 11 August 1947, before the British left the subcontinent,” he said, referencing Balochistan’s brief period of autonomy before its forced accession to Pakistan in 1948.
Addressing Indian audiences directly, he stated, “Dear Indians patriot media, the YouTube comrades, the intellectuals fighting to defend Bharat are suggested not to refer to Balochs as 'Pakistan's Own People'. We are not Pakistani, we are Balochistani.”

Mir’s remarks come during heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent military response, Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Claiming widespread support for India among Balochistan’s population, Mir said, “The people of the Democratic Republic of Balochistan come to show their full support to the people of Bharat. China is helping Pakistan, but Balochistan and its people are with the government of Bharat.”
He also declared solidarity with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting, “You are not alone, you have the backing of 60 million Baloch patriots.”
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest yet least developed province, has long been the epicentre of a separatist insurgency and has witnessed decades of alleged human rights abuses, including extrajudicial killings, forced disappearances, and violent crackdowns on dissent. Human rights organisations have repeatedly raised concerns over the lack of international attention to the region’s plight.
Mir’s bold declarations add to the growing voices from Balochistan challenging Pakistan’s narrative and seeking international recognition of their cause, even as Islamabad faces mounting internal and external crises.
