Gurugram, May 13: In a major breakthrough, Gurugram Police have apprehended a murder accused who had been evading arrest for over 15 years, officials confirmed on Monday.
The accused, Siddh Lal, a resident of Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, was carrying a cash reward of Rs 5,000 on his head and had been absconding since 2009. Acting on a tip-off, a special team of the Proclaimed Offender (PO) staff, Headquarters, Gurugram, led by Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar, arrested him on May 12 from village Dudhwa in district Charkhi Dadri.

According to police, on the night of March 31, 2009, Siddh Lal and two accomplices brutally assaulted Bhagirath, a resident of Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, following a dispute over a money transaction. In a shocking act of violence, they allegedly set the victim on fire.
Bhagirath was rushed to RN Hospital in Manesar, Gurugram, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 11, 2009. A case had been registered under relevant sections at Manesar Police Station. Since then, Siddh Lal remained on the run, frequently shifting between Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states to dodge police action while working as a mason.
“He kept changing his location frequently and lived under the radar. His arrest is a result of sustained efforts by our dedicated team,” said a Gurugram Police spokesperson. The accused is now in custody and will be produced in court for further legal proceedings.
Domestic help nabbed in theft case
In a separate incident, the Gurugram Police also cracked a theft case involving domestic help. Acting on a complaint lodged on May 1 at DLF Phase-3 Police Station, police arrested two accused – including a female domestic worker – for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery worth over Rs 50,000 from a residence in DLF Phase-3 on April 30.
The accused have been identified as Rakhi and Maqsood Alam, both residents of North Dinajpur, West Bengal. Police recovered over Rs 5,000 from their possession. Rakhi has been taken on six-day police remand for further investigation and to recover the remaining stolen items.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to cracking down on long-pending and recent criminal cases with equal seriousness.
