Kaup, May 12: A tragic incident occurred during a wedding ceremony in Nandikur on May 11, when a young boy accidentally drowned near a temple pond.
The deceased child has been identified as Vasudeva (4), son of Satyanarayana (38) and Soumya, residents of Kurkalu village in Kaup.
According to the complaint filed by Satyanarayana, the family had attended a wedding at the Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple hall in Nandikur. Around 2 pm, Soumya was feeding their younger child Vishnu Priya (1) inside the hall, with Vasudeva also nearby.

After feeding the baby, Soumya reportedly stepped away briefly to wash her hands. Upon returning, she noticed that Vasudeva was missing. She immediately informed the family members and relatives present at the hall and began searching for the child in the premises. Despite thorough efforts, the child could not be found within the hall.
At around 2:15 pm, Vasudeva’s body was found floating in the temple pond adjacent to the venue. Bystanders quickly retrieved the child and attempted first aid, but he was unresponsive.
Soumya informed her husband, and the child was rushed to a hospital in Udupi, where doctors declared him dead. The family took him to another hospital in Manipal but doctors there also confirmed his death.
A case has been registered at the Padubidri police station.
