Shashi Tharoor’s poetic swipe at Pakistan after ceasefire breach

New Delhi, May 11: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor delivered a sharp poetic remark aimed at Pakistan, hours after India accused its neighbour of breaching a freshly announced ceasefire agreement.

India and Pakistan had agreed to halt military action along the Line of Control from 5 PM on Saturday following days of intense cross-border exchanges. However, India later confirmed that Pakistan violated the truce the same night, prompting retaliatory action by Indian forces.

Responding to the development, Tharoor posted a Hindi couplet on X (formerly Twitter):

“Uski fitrat hai mukar jaane ki, uske vaade pe yakeen kaise karun”
("It is in his nature to go back on his word, how can I trust his promise?")

Speaking earlier during a book launch, Tharoor emphasized the importance of peace: “India never wanted a prolonged conflict. The aim was to send a clear message to the terrorists—and I believe that message has been delivered.”

The Congress leader's poetic jab underscores the lingering mistrust between the two nations, even in the face of diplomatic ceasefire announcements.
