Mangaluru, May 5: A case has been registered at Mangaluru East Police Station against Sharan Pumpwell in connection with incidents of public unrest and stone pelting on government buses in various parts of the city on May 2.
According to a police press release, Sharan Pumpwell addressed a press conference in the premises of AJ Hospital in Kuntikana under Mangaluru East police limits at 12:50 am on May 2. During the conference, he announced a bandh in Dakshina Kannada district from 6 am to 6 pm on the same day and issued a provocative statement.
Although normal vehicular movement continued during the day and the public did not comply with the bandh call, several shops remained closed and the city came to a partial standstill. Following Sharan Pumpwell’s provocative remarks, his followers allegedly pelted stones at government buses across different areas of the city, creating a tense atmosphere. The incidents reportedly caused damage to public property and disturbed communal harmony, resulting in a breach of peace.
Based on these developments, Mangaluru East police have registered a case against Sharan Pumpwell under case number 75/2025 under sections 353(2), 196(1)(b), 49, 324(2)(4)(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
