New Delhi, May 1: The government will launch the Depot Darpan portal and mobile app on May 20 to bring greater transparency, efficiency, and quality standards in food grain storage across India, the Department of Food and Public Distribution announced on Thursday.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate the digital initiative, which will onboard around 2,278 warehouses including those owned by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), and other hired depots.

Depot managers will use the platform to upload geo-tagged infrastructure data, enabling real-time assessment, automated ratings, and action points. The evaluation covers infrastructure (safety, storage, environmental standards) and operational efficiency (stock turnover, space use, losses, expenses).
Integrated with smart technologies like IoT sensors, CCTV, and AI tools, Depot Darpan also monitors CO2, phosphine gas, fire risks, and humidity, while features like ANPR and face recognition ensure depot security.
The app will also help supervisory officers monitor warehouse performance remotely, supporting timely decision-making and performance reviews.
