Mangaluru: Rising mercury threatens coastal Karnataka as rain remains elusive

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 28: In the coastal region of Karnataka, temperatures have been steadily climbing in recent days, with the Indian Meteorological Department predicting a prolonged dry spell ahead.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, this weather pattern is expected to persist until the first week of April, raising concerns about potential pre-monsoon rains thereafter.

Already, some areas along the coast are grappling with drinking water shortages, and without precipitation soon, conditions are poised to deteriorate further. Weather experts warn of the looming possibility of a heat wave reminiscent of last year.

Traditionally, the coastal region anticipates pre-monsoon showers by the second week of March, but this year's delay has exacerbated concerns. In Mangaluru, temperatures are forecasted to exceed 35 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with Wednesday already seeing a maximum of 33.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.4 degrees Celsius.

Daytime temperatures are reaching near to 40°C; with such heat, water evaporation from the rivers will be substantial; the existing borewells (already in excess) are in the danger of drying up.....and with no signs of premonsoon showers.....rest apply logic and think.....
