Beltangady: Case registered against alleged scammer over fraudulent online transaction

Beltangady, Feb 14: Police have registered a case following complaints from residents of Kuvettu village here, concerning an alleged fraudulent online transaction.

Nupaila K.E (26) and others were engaged in rating an online product via a link provided by a company named Data Read on February 6. They were promised Rs 900 for their participation, which was duly credited to their accounts.

However, between February 8-12, an unidentified individual, purportedly representing the Sadri organization, conducted unauthorized online transactions totalling Rs 6,95,148 from the complainants' accounts to various other accounts. The complainants allege that this individual has cheated them by failing to refund the amount.

In response to the complaints, a case has been filed at Beltangady police station under sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66(D) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrator.
