Udupi: MAHE to host national conference on security, peace, and media

Udupi, Dec 11: In a collaborative effort between Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and the Indian Council of World Affairs, a landmark event—the Dr TMA Pai 125th Birth Anniversary Conference —is set to be hosted by the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations (DGIR), Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), and Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) at MAHE, Manipal, India. Scheduled for December 11-12, this conference will take place at the MIC Auditorium and focus on the critical themes of India's role in international security, peace, and the role of the media environment in shaping these narratives.

The two-day conference will comprise six technical sessions covering diverse topics including India's engagement with the United Nations, the multidimensional impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, media's role in international security and peace, and the influence of technology on these dynamics. Participants at the conference will include strategic experts, academics, policymakers, media professionals, diplomats, and representatives from corporate entities and inter-governmental organizations.

The keynote speech in the inaugural session will be delivered by P S Raghavan, chairman, National Security Advisory Board & former ambassador to Russia, Czech Republic and Ireland and Pankaj Saran, convener, NatStrat, former deputy national security advisor, India and former ambassador to Russia and Bangladesh will deliver the valedictory address. The event will be presided by university officials including Lt Gen (Dr) MD Venkatesh, vice chancellor, MAHE, Prof (Dr) P Giridhar Kini, registrar, MAHE and the heads of the organizing institutions including Prof K P Vijayalakshmi, head, DGIR, MAHE, Prof Varadesh Hiragange, head, GCPAS, MAHE, Prof Padma Rani, director, MIC, MAHE.

The conference is held in honor of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr T M A Pai, whose contributions to education and healthcare are integral to Manipal's identity, the conference will explore the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge in today's society. Dr Pai's legacy of fostering excellence across liberal arts, social sciences, management, and humanities resonates in MAHE's globally recognized institutions.
