Udupi: COTPA squad raids business establishments, imposes fines

Udupi, Dec 8: Taking a stringent stance to enforce the COTPA Act in Udupi taluk, the Tobacco Control Investigation Squad conducted raids on various establishments, including tobacco shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants in proximity to the BSNL office, fish market, and Udupi Court Road. A total of 26 cases were registered against violators under Sections 4, 6(a), and 6(b) of COTPA, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 4,300.

The raids were carried out at key locations in the city to ensure compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). The squad, comprised of officials such as Udupi taluk health officer Dr. Vasudeva, senior health inspector Devappa Patagar, municipal health inspector Surendra Hobalidar, and labour inspector Sanjay, executed the operation.
