Chikkamagaluru: NSWS celebrates St Nicholas Day

Chikkamagaluru, Dec 6: A heart-warming celebration of St Nicholas Day, marked by a profound tribute to the late Nicholas D'Souza was held on December 6. Known as a local messiah, Nicholas left behind a legacy of spreading joy and helping the needy, a legacy now carried forward by his grandson, Shaun D'Souza, through the Nicholas Social Welfare Society (NSWS).

The event, organized in collaboration with Yes We Can Organization, showcased the spirit of giving and community service. Esteemed guests, including NSWS president Steven D'Souza, Raw Cafe founder M S Nagachitra, Lions Club president Ramesh, Municipal Councillor C P Lakshaman, NSWS treasurer Royan D'Souza, and The Heights proprietor Ronald Santhosh, graced the occasion.

The day unfolded with the distribution of more than 1700 donations and 1000 plus chocolates to deserving children from various schools, including Vijayapura Government Kannada Higher Primary School, Nema School, Basavanahalli Girls Higher Primary School, and St Joseph's Convent Higher Primary School.

Shaun D'Souza, a youth icon and co-founder of NSWS, engaged with the children, sharing inspiring stories of his grandfather's benevolence. Beyond the material gifts, Shaun emphasized the importance of academic excellence and encouraged the children to emulate the spirit of kindness.

In a touching gesture, Shaun also remembered B R Ambedkar on his death anniversary, imparting the values of living as responsible contributors to society.

The Lions Club president expressed heartfelt gratitude to Shaun, acknowledging his role as a youth icon and pledging unwavering support to NSWS for their impactful initiatives.

Anitha D'Souza and dedicated volunteers, including Adrian, Neil, Jaron, and Abigale, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event. M S Nagachaitra, the Raw Cafe founder, extended thanks and assured continued support to NSWS in their commendable endeavors.

In adherence to COVID safety measures, the event was conducted with utmost care to ensure the well-being of all participants.

This celebration was more than just an event, it was a collective commitment to carry forward Nicholas D’Souza legacy, fostering compassion and community service in the heart of Chikkamagaluru.
