Mangaluru, Jun 3: Former MLA and minister Ramanath Rai said, “The Congress party implemented Guarantees within two weeks after coming to power in the state.”

Addressing the media on Saturday June 3, he said, “The Congress had announced five guarantees for the welfare of the poor. Gruhajyoti, will commence from July 1 and will provide 200 units of free electricity. Gruhalakshmi, which will commence from August 15, will provide Rs 2,000 to women. The Anna Bhagya scheme for distributing 10 kg of food grains per month will begin from July 1. Shakti, the guarantee of free travel in government buses will be rolled out from July 11. The Yuvanidhi scheme will provide an unemployment allowance of Rs 3000 each per month for all graduates and will provide the diploma holders Rs 1,500 per month.

“The Congress during its previous tenure were able to fulfil 95% of their promises whereas the BJP could only fulfil 10% in their tenure,” he said.

He also spoke about the works initiated by the Congress, such as providing mid-day meals to students, provision of free electricity and the initiation of the Indira Canteen.

In response to the statement made by the BJP about the Congress failing to implement the Guarantees, he questioned their promise to bring back the stashed black money in foreign banks and depositing of Rs 15 lac to every citizen’s account. “It is easy to promise people, but not everybody fulfils their promises” he said.

He also said that the Congress leaders have done a great job in power and would continue to do so. “We have given the 5 guarantees and they will be implemented effectively,” he said.

Corporator Shashidhar Hegde, Congress leaders Ashraf, Sahul Hameed, T K Sudhir, Appi, Jayasheela Adyaanthaya and others were present.
