Udupi, Mar 28: Heavy winds are blowing at deep sea since three to four days causing inconvenience to fishing activity.

According to the information received heavy winds from north are blowing at deep sea areas of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra waters.

Most of the purse seine boats have anchored at Malpe sea port since three days. Trawl boat and small boats have also come to the shore and fishing is stalled.

According to a fisherman it is convenient to do fishing if the wind velocity is around 15 to 20 km per hour. But now the winds are blowing at a speed of 35 to 40 km per hour which is dangerous for fishing activity. As the waves will be violent, it is not possible to spread the fishing nets also.

Nagaraj Suvarna, president of purse seine fishermen said that fishing is stopped till the wind velocity reduces to avoid any kind of danger in deep sea.

Shivakumar, deputy director of fisheries department said, “Due to heavy winds, waves have turned violent. Fishermen are not able to spread the nets in water. Around 40% of boats have returned to Malpe port and anchoring at present. In a day or two, the velocity of winds is expected to reduce.”
