Udupi, Feb 8: About ten youths illegally barged into a hostel of post-matric students at Indiranagar, Udupi and brutally assaulted an inmate, threatening to kill him and his family members. They also shoved a student who came to his rescue.

The hostel has 125 students. Bharath, a resident of Shivamogga, a student of final B A at Thenkanidiyoor government degree college has been staying in the hostel.

According to a complaint filed, about ten youths barged into the hostel at about 10.25 pm on February 6, pushing away the hostel watchman. They pulled out Bharath who was studying at the hostel verandah, tore his clothes, pulled him out when he was running inside his room for safety and assaulted him. One of them hit Bharath with a machete. The youths pushed him to the ground, hurled expletives against him and his caste. They insisted that he should not study and should not remain in Udupi. They shoved aside Viresh N who came to his rescue. They threatened to kill Bharath and his family members, coming out on bail if a police complaint is registered. A complaint is registered in Udupi city police station in this connection.

    Why police was not called and brought under control?What is this ?Students threatening hostel students ?no law and order?Police should have come immediately and controlled situation.
