Udupi, Dec 5: A man was cheated by an online fraudster to the extent of Rs 1.01 lac on the pretext of part time job offer.

Bharatha, a resident of the city, received a link from an unknown mobile number with the offer of a part time job. When Bharatha clicked on the link and logged in and further clicked some links the wallet got created and he was asked to pay money into the wallet.

Bharatha paid Rs 964 on November 29 and he received Rs 1330 on the same day. Bharatha believed this to be a genuine offer and put Rs 84630 through Google Pay and RS 17040 through his friend Manoj. In total both paid Rs 1,01,670. However, they did not receive any amount in return nor the job offer.

A case in this connection is filed at CEN police station of the city.

Sympathy for victims. Police should arrest cheaters and send them to jail. I do not understand why people celebrate here. probably because his name is bharath. Poor fellow. ಯಾರು ಬೇಕಾದರೂ ಕಾಲು ಜಾರಿ ಬೀಳಬಹುದು ... ನೆನಪಿರಲಿ 😆

Effect of DIGI TOLLU India. No safeguard for personal data theft. Draft law still in favour of Bania financiers of BJP government to enable them to steal data of general public even without their consent (consent presumed). Use UPI at your own peril. Your mobile number, email, name will be with every street dog. UPI is managed by NPCI. Your data is just for sale to everyone just like Railways announced monetization of travellers data including personal details. Use only NEFT & RTGS for online fund transfer as it is outside NPCI. NEFT & RTGS also works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NEFT and RTGS is also free just like UPI. Be your own data protector in todays digital world.

Do not use UPI & IMPS for your own safety as both are under NPCI. Your data is visible to every peeping Tom.

This is a clear case of lack of commonsense. If that person offered a job opportunity, why did this man had to send money to him? It is time that youngsters came out of their mobile phones and spent that time in training their brain. About three decades ago, I had seen an advertisement in the newspapers promising high profile jobs in a company with reimbursement of two-way first class train tickets. The only catch was the applicant had to make a payment of Rs. 200 by cheque. Though I was tempted to apply, I resisted as I smelt rat. After a few days newspapers reports appeared that a person from Udupi had filed a police complaint and the culprit who advertised was arrested. Upon investigation it was revealed that this person visited the post office everyday, collected all the posts and encashed the cheques.
