Udupi: Instagram friend cheats woman of Rs 6.9 lac on pretext of sending gifts

Udupi, Dec 2: A woman was conned by a man, whom she got acquainted on Instagram and lost Rs 6.9 lac in the process.

According to a complaint filed by the victim,woman, she became acquainted with a man by the name Leonard Hanks on Instagram. The person introduced himself as a doctor residing in Scotland. Both started chatting on Whatsapp and became good friends.

In the first week of November, the accused Leonard made the victim believe that he was sending gifts through a courier.

Later, a person from the International airport courier office called the victim and asked her to pay money as parcel charges, income tax etc.

The woman paid Rs 6.91 lac in several tranches to the bank accounts suggested by the accused. But, the gift parcel never reached the woman.

A case has been filed with the CEN police station of the city.

    seems to be some banned substance illegal import effort gone wrong... this lady might have done this earlier successfully but this time she has been cheated...it is similar to the phenomenon of people taking loans... many people take loans from friends and repay promptly couple of times... third time they take a larger loan and never return the loan...
