From the time of inception in the year 1998, the university has been recognized always for providing programs that had been introduced in the Gulf for the first time. Striving for global recognition, they have been included in the updated World Directory of Medical schools (WDMS) by the World Health Organization (WHO). Also being recognized by The Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education & Research (FAIMER).
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
All this was possible because of a visionary who foresaw the importance of health care and education; he combined both to offer the community the future of tomorrow.
Thumbay Moideen, Founder, is no ordinary man. Starting of with a humble beginning he belongs to a third generation entrepreneurs from India. The group has progressed vigorously over the last sixteen years, managed by highly experienced professionals. Under his leader ship the group has achieved tremendous growth, he understood the potential and importance of education and health care from which he was enthused to develop the first teaching and research hospital in the Gulf followed by GMC Hospital & Research Centre in Ajman and Fujairah and GMC Pharmacy in Dubai. The group also owns and runs the Body and Soul Health club – an International Chain of Health Clubs, Blends and Brews Coffee Shop – an International Chain of Coffee Shoppe.

THE GULF MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
With the Decree issued by the Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan on the 10th of July 2008 the Gulf Medical College Ajman was officially approved as the Gulf Medical University. The University had its modest beginnings as the Gulf Medical College Ajman in the year 1998 as there was a felt need for a medical college in the United Arab Emirates.
The university began with the M.B.B.S program and later the Bachelor of Physiotherapy program was added in October 2000. Today the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research has recognized the Gulf Medical University as a center of excellence and has permitted the University to foray into newer programs in Pharm D, DMD, Masters Programs in Clinical Pathology, Toxicology and Public Health and Primary Care, the University has also implemented the Fellowship Programs of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as well as the Mc Kenzie Institute Certification Programs in MDT.
The three core areas of focus are; Medical Education, Healthcare and Research. The university will strive to develop these three core areas as spotlights of medical excellence in the coming years.

GMC Hospital & Research Center has been integrating multiple facilities and technologies to accomplish its many purposes.
