Fr Rodney Esperance (70), of the Archdiocese of Bombay, son of the late Lewis and the late Rose, and brother of the late Loretta, the late Ralph, the late Royston, the late Raymond ( + Shila) and Lorraine ( + Joyden), passed away on September 23.

Fr Rodney had served as joint administrator of St Andrew's College, Bandra, coordinator of the NOS centre at St Andrew's High School and as joint administrator of Clergy Home, Bandra.

Funeral details will be announced later.

Eulogy:

Msgr Nereus Rodrigues, rector, St Andrew's College, Bandra, Mumbai, paid rich tributes to Fr Rodney, saying,"Fr Rodney was the trustee of St Andrew's College from its inception. He was an 'Educator'. As trustee and assistant manager of the college, he played a pivotal in making it a premier institution of learning. Fr Rodney will forever be remembered for his selfless service which he renedered to everyone. He had a kind heart and reached out to people in need."

Many priests in the Archdiocese of Bombay owe their vocation to Fr Rodney, his summer camps for boys and girls sowed the seeds of their vocations.

I have to say Fr. Rodney Esperance was an excellent speaker and mentor. Though he was related to us, he always helped me with regards to my admission or any help we needed.

A priest who was instrumental in starting St. Andrew's College. He reminded me of his mum Rose. I always have fond memories of his father Lewis. May all their souls RIP!!

Today I came to know the sad demise of Fr. Rodney.I was a student in 1970's when Fr.Rodney was my principal at SHHS,Worli. He was very lovingly to all the students. May the Lord accept his soul into his paradise.I will remember you always.

I came across this Obit. and was saddened to read it. I was in Sacred Heart during his tenure and I still remember his friendly and helpful attitude towards students. Truly, someone who the students adored and looked up to. It feels as though a part of us is gone with his passing.

It is today that I got to know of Fr Rodney's absence in this world...He was Principal in St. Joseph's High School,Colaba, Mumbai 1973-1977...and I really remember him as a Jolly Good person who always smiled...always helped all...and always was kind...

I was very sad the day I received The news of Rev. Fr.Rodney's death.He was the Principal at Sacred Heart Worli and then later I was interviewed by Fr. Rodney at St.Andrew's. His question was how will u make the college proud of u. I replied that I would work hard and try my best. He was overjoyous and laughed whole heartedly. Today with God's grace I happen to be teaching at St.Andrew's in Australia. Dear God grant him a special place in your kingdom for he has touched many by his kind soul.

It was Fr. Rodney who helped me develop my athletic talents when he was my Principle at Sacred Heart High School in Worli. He got Balagovind (the best coach in India) to train me and because of him I reach and won at the National (All India) level in the sprints and long jump. Fr. Rodney was my mentor and I owe him a great deal. I have posted some photographs of Fr. I am an Ex-Student of St.Andrew''s High School,1975-1985.He was one of the Best Principals i had.The most memorable years where we were moulded under him were at the Khandala Camps @RC Church.I attended around 4-5 of these great camps.In the Alter boys Sodality too we had great fun in his time.Our school football & Hockey teams rose to great heights under his stewardship.I was fortunate to have him Concelebrate my Nuptials.All Andreans have lost thier beloved Priest.

I could never miss a single day at SHBHS (1982 - 1992) only because it was Fr.Rodney who was our principal, he knew exactly what the children wanted and used to react accordingly. I have never ever heard or seen him getting angry at anyone.

I clearly remember him as the person i would look upto in the 80''s. His guidance at SHBHS & then at St.Andrews got my academics back on track and my father has always been thankful to him for the same. I heard about him being ill while i was in mumbai sometime in 2005, but could never make it to see him.

Father, am sorry I could not see you in the end, but you would always be in my heart and i want atleast a fraction of you in me to make this world a better place to live in like you did!

My first encounter with Fr. Rodney was when he took us to camp at RC Church in Khandala in Oct 1968 and then afterwards when playing hockey for SHBHS - He then became the principal of SHBHS after I left very grateful to him for a lot of thing - but specially for being such a nice person

Fr. Rodney was one of the most generous persons I have ever met. I do recall at one of the Kandhala Camps when I was little he went out of his way to look after me as I had major travel illness. May his Soul Rest in Peace. His love for Sport will never be forgotten.

As I sit today, 30 years later. I fondly remember Fr. Rodney, My principal as an 8th grader up until 11th grade. A great sports enthusiast and an amazing person. This was the first year it transitioned from an all girls to a coed and Fr. Rodney was apprehensive. Did an awesome job of managing the whole transition.

Fr.Rodney has been a very strong influence in my life, from the time of being my principal at St.Andrew's to Sacred Heart (Santa Cruz)and back to St.Andrews College, I must mention that I moved schools due to his guidance to my parents so that I could be under his constant watch. He even went further to con-celebrate my wedding. I will always remember Fr.Rodney for all he has done for me and I do meana lot - I am what I am today is because of him. It was unfortunate that we did not meet prior to him passing away as I was going back to India after 10yrs. May his soul rest in peace and may he continue to guide me.

It is with regret that I heard this news. Fr. Rodney used to organize Summer holiday camps in Khandala & the friends I made there are still dear to my heart. His demise is a huge loss for the community. Fr. Rodney .... always loved, never forgotten! Eternal rest grant unto him, Oh Lord.

Its a sad day for Sacred Heart Boys School(S'Cruz). I was a student during his tenure as principal. The availability and concern that he showed for the students the same I experienced when I met him in RC Church as an ex-student. I am saddened to hear the passing away of Fr Rodney. I had the previlage to know him closely during the 90's when I was posted at St Joseph's RC Church Colaba where he was the Parish Priest. He was a very dynamic priest and was very popular with youth. He was a hit with the youngsters of our parish and both my children were close to him. May his soul rest in peace. We'll miss him
