Mangalore, Dec 12: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Udupi Pejavar Mutt began the second phase of his harmony visits (Samarasya Yatre), from Lord Mahalingeshwara temple in Pandeshwar in the city on Tuesday January 11. He met a number of dalit families and questioned them about the problems faced by them, prevalence of untouchability if any,  whether anyone was obstructing them from drawing water from public well, etc.

He lent an ear to their grievances like financial assistance for repairing of homes, confirmation of services of over 30 civic workers, who are currently working on contract basis with the city corporation, absence of electricity connection, and such other problems. The Swamiji promised to provide electricity connection to the house of a lady named Kalyani, financial assistance from Pejavar mutt for house construction, and to hold discussions with the city corporation officials about the absorption of civic workers on permanent basis.

The Swamiji said that the purpose of his door-to-door visits was to decimate untouchability, to create awareness about righteousness, and to listen to and provide possible solution to, the problems faced by the people.  “It is possible to achieve harmony through refinement. All classes of people belonging to Hinduism should offer prayers daily. For this purpose, the Mutt will initiate the people through the path of devotion in three stages,” he said, addressing the devotees in the compound of the said temple before beginning his visits.  He urged the people not to restrain the dalits from entering temples. “The three main aims of my visits is harmony between different castes, doing away with untouchability, and propagating Hinduism,” he stated.

The Swamiji, accompanied by a number of his followers, visited Pandeshwar Katte, Satya Saramani Alera Panjurli temple, and Karnataka Shiva Seva Samiti Pandeshwar, before ending his programme at Hoige Bazar Babbuswamy Daivasthana. He preached Sriram, Sri Durga, Shiva and Maruti hymns to the people.

Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader, M B Puranik, Harikrishna Punaroor, Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation chairman, Nitin Kumar, Pradip Kumar Kalkura, Sharan Pumpwell and others were with the Swamiji during the visit.
