Mangalore, Sep 28: Dr M Shantharam Shetty, vice-chancellor of Nitte University, has been conferred the honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). This rare honour has come to him for his immense contribution to the fields of orthopaedic surgery and traumatology, and in recognition of his achievements in his profession.

The above honorary fellowship is being conferred on surgeons, whose standard of training is equivalent to the duration and type of professional study required for the fellowship examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a release by Nitte University said.

Dr Shantharam Shetty is the immediate past president of Indian Orthopaedic Association, besides being the trustee of AO Foundation, Switzerland. AO Foundation is an international foundation specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, in which over 10,000 healthcare professionals are engaged in research, development, clinical investigations, and education. Dr Shetty continues active research and practice in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty.
