After Halappa, Bache Gowda Causes Embarrassment to Yeddyurappa
From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network

Bangalore, August 16: After the scandalous episode of erstwhile Food and Civil Supplies Minister Hartalu Halappa, who was forced to resign following the alleged rape of friend’s wife in their own house in Shimoga where he got himself invited for dinner, it is now the turn of Labour Minister B N Bache Gowda to cause further embarrassment to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

The Chief Minister tendered an apology to the the victims for alleged high-handed behaviour of Bache Gowda, which was reported in a section of the media.

A case of misdemeanour was registered agaisnt Labour Minister B N Bache Gowda, who had beaten up a businessman and his family at Maragondanahalli near Nelamangala, for overtaking his car on National Highway 48 (NH 48) around 6.30 pm on Independence Day, Sunday evening, on the way back to Bangalore after attending a function for hoisting the national tricolor at Hassan.

Bache Gowda as the district in-charge minister of Hassan had gone there to participate in the Independence Day flag-hoisting function and was returning to Bangalore.

The chief minister, who is already facing anxious moments and is forced to defend the Bellary Reddy Brothers over charges of illegal mining to avoid another bout of dissidence, was forced to tender an apology for Bache Gowda’s unruly behaviour.

Meanwhile, Congress opposition leader in the Karnataka assembly Siddaramaiah, who had gone to Delhi along with his legislative council counterpart Motamma, KPCC president R V Deshpande and working president D K Shivakumar as also several state Congress leaders to meet President Pratibha Patil to demand denial assent to the controversial Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act 1964, has condemned Bache Gowda’s behaviour terming it as ``totally unbecoming of a minister.”

Siddaramaiah has urged the Chief Minister to drop Bache Gowda from the cabinet if the latter refuses to gracefully resign on his own.

Real estate businessman Bharat, who was driving in a Tata Safari along with his aged father Lokappa Gowda, wife and two children, had overtaken the Minister’s car near the Cadbury’s chocolate factory unmindful of the official car with red beacon light.

Angered by the affront by an ordinary citizen, the Minister’s car driver immediately drove past the Tata Safari and got down along with the official gunman accompanying Bache Gowda and took Bharat to task for not bothering to make way giving respect to the Minister. ``Are you such a big man to overtake an official car of the minister,” they asked and assaulted the real estate businessman.

When Bharat, who was slapped and beaten up causing bleeding injuries and even loss of a tooth, reportedly asked the Minister’s driver and gunman to lodge a police complaint if overtaking a minister’s car was an offence, Bache Gowda, who was sitting in his car until then, got livid with anger and abused Bharat with foul language unmindful of the pleas from the wife and children. Even the aged father’s pleas to let the matter go by without harming his son fell on deaf ears.

The Minister called the Nelamangala police Inspector and directed the police to register a case against Bharat. As per the Indian Motor Act, the police collected fine of Rs. 300 from Bharat, who was taken to the Nelamangala police station along with his family.

The Chief Minister, who spoke to reporters, said he would speak to his cabinet colleague Bache Gowda and collect information on the issue.

The case registered against Bharat would also be withdrawn, he said cautioning his Cabinet Ministers not to repeat such incidents in the future.

The Chief Minister also said he would also speak to Bharat and obtain details from him about entire incident.

Nagesh, since when have you become a parrot with a distorted voice? Incase you do not know history just remember that we have been independent for 63 years and the congress has ruled the country for most of the time. Since you blame the congress for all of the nation's ills, then have the decency to congratulate them for the nation's progress as well. We are a respected and feared country in the world today. The entire world has understood our potential and are rushing to India to set up shop. Therefore say thanks to the congress because it is they who have been in power for almost 80% of the time since 1947, and it is because of them we are what we are today. It is still not very late for you to join the congress and particpate in nation building, rather than sulking and passing nonsense comments from a corner.I don't see a political future for you in the BJP, because it will self destruct sooner than later, Thanks to the Yeddis, Reddy's, Halappas and Bacche Gowdas.

    Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak,

Why are you dragging Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Mr. Manmohan Singh to this unrelated issue? Your reaction is similar to the BJP leaders who will try to mislead whenever they are cornered for their wrongdoings.

People will appreciate if you can comment on the issue instead of writing nonsense. This behaviour of the politician is condemnable and it is not party specific. Such people you can find in all parties but the reaction of most of the BJP people (including you) on the issue are not appreciable at all.

Please remember most of the ministers in the union government today are quite capable and doing a good job. You think that only BJP people are nationalistic and all others are antinational. On the contrary majority of Indian citizens (including majority of Hindus) do not agree with this view and hence they defeated this communal party which has dented the Indian unity by their communal agenda.

Mr. Nagesh, please remember this country is bigger than your party.(BJP) Nobody cares about any party. If Congress is in power today it is because BJP fares much behind Congress in its nationalistic approach.

People must have forgotten JDS minister Moiddin in JH Patel government had scolled in similar fashion to a taker driver just becasue he did not give minister an opportunity to overtake. Like that Cogress has sevel exmples of rowdy behavior. This is nothing new. Its a common behavior of a polotician. Common man has to live with it. No other way -)

Labour minister Bache Gowda does not know that the salary of his driver, his gunman and of his own comes from the pocket of people like Bharat. His red beacon mounted car, petrol for that car, his food bills, his accommodation, his hospital bills, his medicine, his children’s education, his travel expenses and what not is being paid by us tax paying citizens. Mind you tax paying citizens, we are not paying for the serving ministers, instead we are paying for goons to thrash us.
The fact here is almost all the drivers and the gunmen of the ministers are money minting machines. People, who want to get some illegal work done, approach these drivers and guards. Then you all know how things work in India. Only God can help us.

Our state govt. cabinet consists of all gundas, which is very well proved ever since they came to power. Each minister made an individual and different record from sex to bla bla bla - they think gundagiri, for silly things, is the only weapon they have in the state! What better one can expect from our BJP leadership? Our CM either sheds tears in public or is an expert lier. Be careful all BJP followers, never try to overtake your own Ruling idol LEADERS,tomorrow it can happen to you as well.

Because they are the ruling 'SULTAN-MAJESTYS'. Salute your "Bachali Gowda" always. Now no point in commenting, criticizing, repeanting etc. but think 1000 times before you vote next. By the way, where is our Nagesh Naik hiding? Come-one Nagesh wake up and pass your valuable comments.

This is Democracy. People should never re-elect such politicians who are behaving rudely towards public. This should be a lesson for other Ministers also. After all, people are not taken for granted. There is a limit for everything. One has to eat the fruits of his acts. This is the law of nature.

'Politics is the last resort for the scoundrels' how rightly Mr. George Bernard Shaw has quoted this statement and how perfect living examples like Halappa and now Bache Gowda we come across in our society. These ministers are supposed to be public servants. If ministers act like goondas what will be the fate of general public. Whom to be blamed now as it is we who voted for these scoundrels to be our leaders. It is high time for our public to wake up and take wise decision while balloting. If ministers are involved in goonda act who will save us from their chelas like BD,Ram Sene & RSS.

Even our state capital is not secured from goondas of Ram Sene. Where is law and order. what our CM and HM are doing except consoling public and safeguarding their own cabinet rouges. Sathyameva Jayathe can only be seen on the walls. Karnatka is heading in the direction of another notorious state of India - Bihar. Full credit should go to BJP government.

Hi Lavin Noronha, Paladka/Bahrain, U really have a very good & lively imagination. But unfortunately, din't U realise that the Bellary Reddys have already done what U imagined? Or else, how can anyone explain how Yeddy was asked to bend backwards, his trusted & only female minister Shobha (who incidentally was one of the high performer - as minister!) was given the sack & forced to withdraw all officers, who were transferred out of Bellary during the height of dissidence, & immediately reistated?
These Halappas, Renukacharyas, Bachegowdas & of course, our own MLA Raghupathy Bhat, Y Sampangi or even another minister Sudhakar are just some of the specimens. Just wait & many more are likely to be exposed - literally! Because U work in Bahrain, perhaps U don't know the ground realities.

This is the height of arrogancy. Mr. Bachegowda may be the minister today but he should understand that this is not a permanent position and he may be thrown out of power anytime by the people.

Then how this Bacchegowda will be remembered? ......or whether he will be remembered at all...

Dear Bachegowda, you can do better things for the people than showing this arrogancy which nobody appreciate.

Tom Cat,I did not comment on your comment on people not exercising their voting rights because I felt it was irrelevant to the issue highlighted in the report. I agree people not voting cannot be justified. As for Bangladeshis/Pakis (You probably meant illegal immigrants) voting, that is an entirely different matter. There is also the widespread menace of bogus voting & various other malpractices, particularly money & muscle power (criminalisation). Just because you have raised some issues out of context, does not mean others should respond. I felt bad when you supported Bache Gowda's arrogant behaviour. I will condemn such behaviour by anybody, not just because x, y or z is a minister. All of us pay tax & therefore have every right to use roads & other public infrastructure. A day may come when people might be prevented from breathing the air or walking on the road, if this kind of arrogant behaviour is tolerated or justified. You are free to hold your views. But don't expect me to respond to all your points. Be sensible. Tomorrow, you might become a victim of such callous, arrogant behaviour.

apt way to celebrate 'freedom'. minister has freedom to beat up a citizen but the citizen isn't free to overtake minister on road.

A minister is," of the people ,by the peopole , for the people ",and not vice versa. But here buche gowda thinks just opposite that.Punish the driver as well as the gun man.dont spare them.It must be a lesson for all govt.servants.If not dismiss from servise, transfer him to any remote hospital ambulance 108 and gun man to border security .

Dear Vazir, Bangalore you replied to my points but one regarding no voting citizens, are you one to feel guilty, secondly Bangladeshi and Pakis in India vote in place non voting citizens.

Tom Cat, Mangalore/ Saudi Arabia, If this is your real name, it is a very apt name. Because, nobody in their correct senses will ever defend a Minister for beating up an innocent citizen for overtaking & invite the Minister to come to Mangalore to beat up more people. A minister is just like any other citizen. This kind of arrogance should never be tolerated. This kind of attitude & behaviour encourages more Halappas & Bacche Gowdas & they like the Bellary Reddys think of being above all laws & civilised behaviour.

Dear Bache Gowda you did a right thing, beat more people specially no voting class citizens, please come to Mangalore and do the same thing, here citizens are very lazy, on election day they rather go for a picnic then vote. When ignorant stupid people vote for sake of money, what do citizens expect to get? " you get Bache Gowda"

It is shame on the part of Karnataka BJP Government to have a minister like Bachhe Gowda who has insulted and injured a respectable civilian and his aged father for no reason of their. This is too much from a shameless minister which has surely brought disgrace to the Government.
To save from the embarrassment and to provide justiece to the aggrieved minsiter should be ped from the minstry immediately and suspended from the party.Policie officer who has charged and fined the innocent civilian should also be penalised by suspension and enquiry be conducted. The incident is a indication of lawlessness of the people at power and utter disregard for the law abiding citizens. This can happen any where in the state and to any body.Report by Bangalore Mirror on the whole episode was really shocking.Yedyurappa act swiftly.

What happened to the politicians of Karnataka. They don't think themslves as human nor others ! This minister's arrogant attitude highly condemnable. This minister should be sacked immediatly from the counsil of ministers.Shame on "BACCHE"gowda. He himself is a Prabhu rather than citizens/voters!!This ugly episode really makes us to think politicians are either super human or not humans.

CM's press brief in this matter was heartning, apolozaised immediatly and went on telling that he will meet that victim family and withdrwa the case filed against Bharath family.I wonder how dare a minister issuing a threat to public in TV interview that he still justifies his action and in future he will do the same!!!!!!!!!GOD SAVE KARNATAKA?!
