‘Mangalore Church Attack only because of New Life organisation’

Mangalore, Jul 16 (DHNS): BJP Mahila Parishat leader Asha Jagadish who deposed before the Justice B K Somasekhara Commission of Inquiry (JBKSCOI) stated that conversion was the main reason for incidents of attack on Christian prayer centres that took place on September 14, 2008.

“Conversion centres were attacked only because of the New Life organisation. I did not know whether the then Bajrang Dal chief Mahendra Kumar had owned the responsibility of carrying out attacks,” Asha admitted before the Commission during the witness examination.

She said that she is not able to recollect the names of those literatures which insulted the Hindu religious sentiments.

She asserted that her neighbour Ganesh was forcefully converted into Christianity to marry a Christian girl.

“The Holy Saint School in Bangalore, where I studied upto fifth standard, did not allow me to wear kumkum or banges according to Hindu tradition,” she explained asserting that conversion is the reason for attacks.

Another witness Bhagawan Das from Permannur said that the police had clamped Section 144 and asked Christians to disperse from the Permannur St Sebastian Church premises. “Christians attacked houses of Hindus, shouted slogans against BJP,” he said.

He further added that he did not notice Bajrang Dal activists near the church.
When advocate for the government Narayana Reddy started showing photographs of untoward incidents that took place at Permannur Church premises on September 15, 2008, to Bhagawan Das, advocate for Christians B Ibrahim opposed it pointing out that it was not marked by the Commission as evidence. Meanwhile, Justice B K Somasekhara said that photos and CD can be used as evidence.

Later Reddy showed the photos to Bhagawan Das and confirmed whether he can identify persons in the photographs.

919 hours of sitting

The JBKSCOI has conducted a total of 919 hours-long sittings in Bangalore, Mangalore, Udupi and Davanagere to complete the examination of 988 petitions.

Vidyashankar informed that the Commission held a total of 209 sittings, wherein 156 sittings of 720 hours were conducted by Justice B K Somasekhara himself.

A total of 2,283 exhibits have been taken on record in addition to 33 material objects. Enquiry in respect of affidavits received from Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Mysore, Bangalore, Kodagu and Dharwad, Bellary and Belgaum have already been completed and enquiries pertaining to other districts are almost on the verge of completion, he said adding that 25 petitions yet to be completed in Dakshina Kannada district.

All activities are conducted in a transparent manner and all the data pertaining to the affairs of the Commission including cause list, depositions, interrogations, list of exhibits and court orders are posted on Commission’s website - www.jbkscoi.org on a day to day basis, Vidyashankar informed.

I support the views that there should be no conversions be it forceful or out of free will, from one religion to another religion.

The faith/religion of the parents under wich a child is born, should be the official religion of the new born. Any change of religion there after, should be done only through the permissions of the courts of law.

In a country like India, where people of several faiths live together, and to protect everybodys interest and safety, Relgious preachings and prayers or ceremonies should not be conducted in public places.Public religious processions should be banned.

It would be good if the christians would forgive those who damaged the church properties and forget this matter, at the same time, the Govt should withdraw any cases against the christians and put and end to this matter.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak You are a traitor of Mera Bharath Mahan and you are not respecting the constitution rather we respect the constitution. Are not funds coming to Nithyananda, RSS, ISCON, are not they indulged in converting Christians in foreign countries and in India as well. You are still a child. Use some commonsense at least. How long will you be ignorant, negligent as an agent of communal's.

I ONLY HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO ASKS TO CONVERT. WHY DO YOU HAVE ASK A PERSON TO CONVERT. YOU ARE MOST WELCOME TO GIVE ANY ASSISTANCE FOR A PERSON IN NEED WITHOUT CONVERTING HIM. THIS APPLIES TO ALL RELIGIONS. I AM SURE PEOPLE ARE HAPPY TO ACCEPT ANY ASSISTANCE WITHOUT THE NEED TO CONVERT THEIR RELIGION.

People belonging to the " NEW LIFE" have done enough damage to the catholic community by indulging in mindless and unnecessary propaganda. It is a well known fact that they work for money only. They are tarnishing the reputation and goodwill the catholic community has earned over the years because of its charity works, tolerance and policy of peaceful co- existence. The need of the hour is for the catholic community to dissociate itself from the disgraceful " NEW LIFE" sect and its greedy followers.
And as for the fascists who deplore Catholic community, take a reality check...We are the most peaceful community, we offer the best education and healthcare without any bias toward any religion..even till this day, every parent wants their child to study in an institution run by the Catholic community because these schools give your children the best moral education, culture and discipline. Nobody can dispute this fact.
Let us lead our lives peacefully as we always have.

you seems to knowing very little of india and north east.do you know the christian population in india? conversions take place even today here but not to christianity. by now whole world knows which are the fundamental groups that are linked with political parties and try to create terrorism in the country. a state like gujarat is already getting back fire.the hands of the laws are too long.one cannot get away with the crime very easily. mob mentality will not work henceforth.every citizen of the country will be protected under the constitution. those who take law in hand will have to bare the consequences, irrespective of religion.

    Dear Nagesh Nayak,
Please bear in mind that forceful conversion is not at all existed in India. If at all there is conversion, it is going on with full agreement of the convertees. It is fundamdental right given to every citizen of India by our constitution. Otherewise we have to amend our constitution. I think Mr. Nagesh is not knowing that many Hindu swamis in USA and UK have converted lakhs of Christians into Hindus. But Christians are not opposing the activities of Hindus in USA and UK and other European coutries. Because they are not fundamentalists. There any citizen can practice any religion. Because they are broad minded.

Well... Well.. She does not remember Mahendra Kumar's openly owning up of the responsibility for attacks (that took place just two years back) but remembers her childhood discipline in the school. What does she imply ? Was she forced to study in that school too ? Needn't her mental condition be verified ?

Asha jagadish finally agrees. This is the major drawback of the followers in our society that many of the attackers jobless, paid misunderstood, misguided by narrow minded idiologists without knowing another religion. Paid workers who may not be christians with small literature go to house to house to preach who do not have even a praying place. The people where churches having huge building and running best educational institutions do not reqiure to preach outside the church and they do not do that job.IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS I FEEL WE NEED NOT SHOW WHO IS WHO. ONLY STUDY AND BE GOOD SAMATARIAN.

BJP Mahila Morcha's President's verdict justifying church attacks shows how much shalow minded she has been.
Her naration of conversion citing her neighbor's example amused me.That person wanted to live with a christian girl hence to please her or her parents he has converted himself, Thank God christians do not have BD culture, other wise the situation would have been different.
Her middle school memories are too are hollow. Most of the convent Scools do not allow students to wear bindi or kukkum even now. Has it lead to conversion?
Dear Madam still we are below 2% of India's population.Do you want us to be endagered species????inct
