Bengaluru: Cleaning of Vidhana Soudha done at cost of Rs 59 lac - Is it worth?

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 4: Sometimes it seems that to ensure a clean environment to maintain good health, the government is going to an extreme extent. This is made clear by the fact that the government has spent not less than Rs 59 lac to keep the walls and corridors of Vidhana Soudha clean during these seven months.

This expenditure looks extravagant at a time the government is facing funds crunch and vacant spots are left unfilled because of a shortage of funds. It is finding it hard to pay salaries to its employees. The PWD called for tender amounting to Rs 59 lac for seven months last month. The government spends over eight lac rupees every month to keep the corridor and walls of Vidhana Soudha clean.

The building has 370 rooms and 14 toilet complexes. As this building is made of stones, even water jet cleaning would be sufficient to maintain it clean.

One wonders whether it is necessary to clean the walls. The government has been unable to fill 1,200 vacancies in the Vidhana Soudha, Vikasa Soudha and MS Building. Sources say that out of 84 posts of sweepers, vacancies created by retirement were left unfilled. For cleaning 14 toilets 14 outsourced employees have been hired, an official says.

Don't know if work was done. Single coat of painting for 2BHK flat (just inside) cost Rs.20k. It is insane. The painting of entire building costs a crore. At Rs. 56Lakh, wonder what work was done on such a massive complex which is peanuts at Bangalore prevailing rates.

Its nothing but for Pocket money. May be many such unimportant works have been done. Unnecessary expenditure. Salaries of atleast some staff should have been paid from this amount.

The residents of this building have to first clean their minds and souls of corruption. They should truly start workong for the welfare of the people. They should stop thinking they are doing us a favor. They should stop VIP culture. They should give first preference to the people. They should realise they are public servants. Only then it will all be worth it.

Certainly it is worth every paisa spent honestly for cleaning Vidhana Soudha. However, the cleaning not the building and offices, rather it should be of the elected representatives, from corruption, communalism, nepotism, greed, immoral behaviour and so on. Jai Karnataka Maathe.
