Udupi, Dec 3: State home minister and district in-charge Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated a new liquid oxygen plant that is built on the campus of the government district hospital in Ajjarkad here on Thursday, December 3.

Regarding the upgradation of the district government hospital in Ajjarkad, Bommai spoke to the media after examining land which has been reserved for the construction of a new building for the district hospital. Speaking on the occasion he said, "There was a proposal of having a well equipped 250-bed hospital. It was a long-awaited demand which has finally received all the necessary approvals. It was cleared in the Cabinet meeting. However, there is a need to carry out some changes in the earlier designs. We have decided to use the existing old hospital building while making some changes in the design instead of tearing down the entire building. This decision has been taken because shifting the hospital for two years will prove to be a difficult task. We have decided to have a new building near the ANM Training Center. There is another plan of developing the roads leading to the hospital along with the construction of a parking lot in the hospital campus and MLAs have requested additional funds for this purpose. When a new proposal is drafted in this matter, I will approve of that immediately."

"If any additional rooms are required, it can be arranged on the already available land near the hospital. Although, it will take 20 months to complete the construction once the tender is passed. By that time required staff will be recruited," Bommai assured.

DC G Jagadeesha, CEO of zilla panchayat Dr Naveen Bhat, district health officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, Covid nodal officer Dr Prashanth Bhat, district surgeon Dr Madhusudhan Nayak, K Raghupati Bhat MLA Udupi, Lalaji Mendon MLA Kaup, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde president, Coastal Development Authority, Raghavendra Kini president, Udupi Urban Development Authority, Sumithra Nayak president, City Municipality Council, Rashmi Chittaranjan Bhat, councillor and others were present.
