Bantwal, Dec 3: In a tragic accident, a speeding auto-rickshaw toppled after the driver lost control of the vehicle near Kalpane curve, Benjanapadavu on Wednesday evening. An infant born three days ago has passed away in an accident. Meanwhile, the driver and two other women have escaped with injuries.

Three days ago, the mother of the infant identified as Umaira, resident of Gurupura Kaikamba had given birth to a baby girl in Lady Goschen Hospital. The mother and the infant were discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening and had arrived in an empty ambulance that was on its way to BC Road. They got down from the ambulance at BC Road–Kaikamba and had carried on with their journey in an autorickshaw of a Goodinabali resident.

The vehicle toppled after the driver lost control of the vehicle near a curve at Benjanapadavu. The three-day-old infant that was on the lap of the mother was thrown out on impact and died on spot.

The two women in the auto-rickshaw who suffered minor injuries are admitted to a private hospital in BC Road, said the locals who were present at the spot.

Umaira has four sons and her fifth baby was a girl. The child passed away in the accident before reaching home.

What a tragedy? I don't understand how the mother must be in a shock after losing her three day old baby girl in this auto-rickshaw which toppled at a curve. Condolences to her and her family. She had five boys earlier and I am sure she was longing for a baby girl.
