Mangaluru, Nov 25: Drinking water in more than eight wells got contaminated due to the seepage in the wastewater drains. The contaminated water leaked into the residential area of Kana Ashraya colony, which is home to people of the scheduled caste. The dirty water from the drains also overflowed on the roads causing anguish among the locals.

Former MLA Mohiuddin Bava visited the spot and spoke to the commissioner over the phone concerning the matter. He also directed the commissioner to send officials for inspection. The former MLA stated that Rs 51 crore was set aside during his term for the works under the Amrut project. However, works were not taken up.

No one to enquire about the plight of the poor:

"The present legislators seem to be asleep. People are unable to live in peace from the foul smell. If this issue is not resolved, a massive protest will be held next Saturday," he warned.
