Bengaluru: Konkani poet Vally Vagga from Dakshina Kannada among Rajyotsava Award winners

Bengaluru, Oct 28: Noted Konkani poet and activist Vally Vagga from Dakshina Kannada is among the eminent personalities chosen by the Karnataka government for this year's prestigious Rajyotsava Awards.

Among the other recipients from Udupi are Manegar Miran Saheb for social service, Prof Udupi Srinivas for science and technology, and and M K Vijaykumar in the field of judiciary.

Lingappa Sherigara Kateel from Dakshina Kannada has been chosen for the coveted awards in the field of music, and Kusumodara Deranna Shetty from Dakshina Kannada will be bestowed outstation Kannadiga award.

About Valli Vagga

Valerian D’souza, known as Vally Vagga was born at Vagga in Nirkan Parish, on July 27, 1947. He relocated to Mysuru and later married Libera in 1971. They are blessed with a son Loy, born in 1986.

His first short story was published in Raknno weekly way back in 1964. An MA in Kannada, he never looked back and worked continuously in honing his skills in writing. An active person in Konkani circles, he has written over 150 short stories, over 100 poems and articles. Above 40 short stories are translated and published in popular Kannada magazines. He has presented his short stories in Akashavani Mangalore as well as Mumbai and appeared in Doordarshan’s poetic sessions. Under his own Lourdes publication banner, four books have been published.

Vally Vagga has been awarded and honoured by Karnataka Sahitya Academy and Konkani Kutam Bahrain for contribution to Konkani literature. He will be always admired for his never-say-die approach as a Konkani activist and over 50 years of relentless service in Konkani literature. He was also bestowed highly prominent Daiji Dubai Literary Puraskar in 2019.

In the literature field, the awardees include Prof C P Siddhashrama Dharwad, V Munivenkatappa Kolar, Ramanna Byati (Specially abled), Gadag, Valerian D'Souza (Valli Vagga), Dakshina Kannada and D N Akki Yadagiri.

The awardees in the music field include Hambaiah Nooli, Raichur, Anantha Teradala Belagavi, B V Srinivas, Bengaluru City, Girija Narayana, Bengaluru City and Lingappa Sherigara Kateel, Dakshina Kannada.

In the judicial field K N Bhat, Bengaluru and M K Vijaya Kumar Udupi are chosen for the awards.

Awards in the media field are given to C Maheshwaran, Mysuru and T Venkatesh (E Sanje), Bengaluru City.

A S Chandrashekhara, Mysuru is given the award for Yoga field.

Education field awardees include M N Shadakshari, Chikkamagaluru, R Ramakrishna, Chamarajnagar, M G Eshwarappa, Davanagere, Puttasiddaiah, Mysuru, Ashok Shettar, Belagavi and D S Dandin, Gadag.

Outstation Kannadiga award is given to Kusumodara Deranna Shetty, Kelthadka, Dakshina Kannada, Vidya Simhacharya Mahuli, Maharashtra, Mulund, Mumbai.

In the sports field that awards are given to H B Nanjegowda, Tumkur and Usharani, Bengaluru City.

In the construction and real estate field, the awards are given to K V Raju, Kolar, N Venkobarao, Hassan, K S Rajanna (differently abled), Mandya and V Laxminarayana, Nirmaan, Mandya.

Awards in the field of organizations and associations are given to Youth for Seva, Bengaluru city, Devadasi Swavalambana centre, Ballary, Better India, Bengaluru City, Yuva Brigade, Bengaluru Rural and Dharmothana Trust, Dharmasthala, Dakshina Kannada.

In the field of social service, the awards are given to N S (Kundaragi) Hegade, Uttara Kannada, Prema Kodandarama Shreshti, Chikkamagaluru, Manegar Meeran Saheb, Udupi and Mohini Siddegowda, Chikkamagaluru.

The awards in the medical field are given to Ashok Sonnad, Bagalkot, B S Srinath, Shivamogga, A Nagaratna, Ballary and Venkatappa, Ramanagar.

In the field of agriculture the awardees are Suratsingh Kanoor Singh Rajaput, Bidar, S V Sumangalamma Veerabhadrappa, Chitradurga and Sidramappa Basavantharao Patil, Kalaburagi.

For Environment, the awards are given to Amara Narayan, Chikkaballapur and N D Patil, Vijayapur.

The awards in science and technology are conferred on Prof Udupi Srinivas, Udupi and Dr Chindi Vasudevappa, Shivamogga.

In the cooperative sector the award is given to Dr C N Manchegowda, Bengaluru City.

For Bayalata, the awards are given to Kempavva Harijana, Belagavi and Chennabasappa Bendigeri Haveri.

In the Yakshagana field, the awardees are Bangar Achary, Chamarajnagar and M K Ramesh Acharya, Shivamogga.

For theatre the awards are given to Anasuyamma, Hassan, H Shadaksharappa, Davanagere and Tippeswamy, Chitradurga.

In the movie field, the awards are given to B S Basavaraj Tumkur and Apadanda Timmaiah Raghu (A T Raghu), Kodagu.

In Fine arts field the award is given to M J Vached Math, Dharwad.

In folk arts field, the awards are given to Gururaj Hosakote, Bagalkot and Dr Hampanahalli Timmegowda, Hassan.

In Sculpture the award is given to N S Janardhana Murthy, Mysuru.

For dance the award is given to Natya Vidushi Jyoti Pattabhiram.

In folk/bombeyata field the award is given to Keshappa Shillekyatara, Koppala.
