Udupi, Oct 21: "Upgradation of Ajjarkad district hospital, which is the demand of public of the district since many years, seems to be getting finalized on October 22. This is included in the agenda of the state cabinet meeting that is scheduled to take place on Thursday October 22. Since Udupi was made a separate district 23 years ago, this was an important demand. I have strived for this in my earlier term as MLA also. However, it was not sanctioned by the finance department as the amount is huge," said MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Bhat further said, "The chief minister has given an assurance this time in the legislative session. Accordingly, approval will be given for the upgradation of Ajjarkad hospital. The hospital will be upgraded to a 250-bed for a cost of Rs 115 crore. This includes the staff and furniture and equipment also. The cost of the building would be Rs 150 crore. Every year, an additional Rs eight crore needs to be repaid.

"I wholeheartedly thank, on behalf of the public of Udupi, chief minister B S Yediyurappa, who has responded to the demand of several years of the people of Udupi, former health and family welfare minister B Ramulu and present health and family welfare minister Dr Sudhakar and the officials of the department.

"I request the people of Udupi to join their hands in getting the district hospital upgraded as soon as possible once the approval is given by the cabinet,” he said.
