Bantwal, Oct 20: In an incident which happened at Karpe within the limits of the police station here, a person who had left home for toddy tapping died under suspicious circumstances.

The deceased has been identified as Narayana Poojary (50), a native of Karpe. He used to work as toddy tapper. As usual, he had left home on Monday October 19 evening for toddy collection. He did not return home even at night. His family members and neighbours went searching for him. His body was found under a tree that was marked for toddy extraction.

There are suspicions about the circumstances under which he died. While some suspect that he would have slipped and fallen from the palm tree when tapping the toddy, there is also the possibility that this could be a case of murder. The truth will come out only after an in-depth investigation by the police department.

Already rumours about Poojary's death have been making the rounds. Bantwal police circle inspector T D Nagaraj, Bantwal rural police sub-inspector Prasanna among other visited the spot and undertook probe.

Very sad. Before doubting anything ,kindly make sure he is not bitten from snakes.Mostly snakes love thody and often one meets either at the tree ,or some even get into the pot I heard. At night they are attracted to the smell. But it is sad enough .Heartfelt sympathy to the family.May be he had taken a sip of toddy which was poisonous whatever the cause is?May his soul rest in peace.
