I am quite surprised about Dalits convert into Buddhism .One way I am happy they adapt now a new community or religion ,which will give them chance to live as human in society.Other wise they had to be surpressed by higher caste community to live and be under them in certain parts of India.whatever they do was commented as Dalits.Their girls were raped by higher caste.Their land was taken by force by landlords and driven away. Now they can visit any Temples without to be stamped as Dalits.Other side I wonder how all of a sudden so many of them in a big round converted.what made them to take this step? Some event or decision if someone could explain ?Whether they still use nonveg food ?or have to change over to veg? That interests me.Well ,wish all of them all the best.

By converting to Buddism it's only a outward change and they will never be considered as equal with upper class tag unless peopl's mindset is changed. There would be always inferiority feeling when mixing with upper class lot.

Dalits still feel bottom of the caste ladder, as now education brings Dalits are no longer meek and they want to live in respectful life. Its Dalits rights to demanding their long pending due to give equal rights.

Everyone has a dream in life to live in better life and its their choice to live.

Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, have originated from Hindustan, they are petals, from the branches of Hinduism !!! Jewish, Christianity and Islam share the Abrahamic beliefs and traditions... Those who have embraced Buddhism will not loose, any of the benefits, guaranteed by the government !!! Truly a wise decision, without diluting the ancient cultural ethos of India !!!!

Then, why only the lower caste opt to convert to Buddhism ? Why not Brahmins, Jains ?

I'll tell you. Because the higher caste are oppressing the lower. The higher caste are enjoying the riches and position while the lower slog in poverty and are made to slog. Do menial works like burring the dead animals, clean the toilets and so on.

While converting to Budhism, they have to make 22 vows. I give below the first 5 vows. By this, I presume, there is lot of difference between the faiths. This is not my argument. If people like you still believe there is no difference between Hinduism and Budhism, it is okay for me.

    1. I shall have no faith in Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara, nor shall I worship them.
    2. I shall have no faith in Rama and Krishna, who are believed to be incarnation of God, nor shall I worship them.
    3. I shall have no faith in Gauri, Ganapati and other gods and goddesses of Hindus, nor shall I worship them.
    4. I do not believe in the incarnation of God.
    5. I do not and shall not believe that Lord Buddha was the incarnation of Vishnu

They have choice. The accelerated amount of treatment they are facing at this moment from a section of community in India is disgusting. We are blaming neighbour countries for prosecutions of minorities. Here a hindu itself is not safe at this moment. This is the real threat to hinduism. Love jihad which they cry for threat sheer a myth in order to polarize vote bank only.

PM Narendra Modi said, “COVID-19 does not see race, religion, caste before striking”. What he never mentions is other virus in the society existed for centuries now - Casteism.

Statistics show, every 15 minutes, a crime is committed against a Dalit, 6 Dalit women are raped every day and 56,000 dalit children living in slums die due to malnutrition every year in India. Covid 19 requires us social distancing, but this social distancing was practiced in India for centuries with untouchables.

I have read all the 22 vows that these dalits make when converting to Budhism. The no.I9 vow states "I renounce Hinduism, which disfavors humanity and impedes the advancement and development of humanity because it is based on inequality, and adopt Buddhism as my religion".

I have mentioned No. 19 vow here, as it is written in the text, and it is not my view.

Buddhism teaches peace & we respect it but why people has to support conversion! The same converted people will be against their past religion some day!!!
Not so long back ago, traders from western countries took many Indian king's into confidence & converted many people in a peaceful way. Now great grand children's of those converted people have bitter feelings against their own ex-religion !!!
On other hand, being Dalit has advantages in India, becos of reservation & all!

You have this view about people being against their ex religion. I know people who have bitter views about the political party which has uplifted their economic status in the past 60 years. Their community banks were nationalized, their jobs were changed to government jobs and now they are enjoying pension, their children are well settled abroad etc but they still cry we are poor, what that party has done other than corruption, indooo katre mein hain blah blah bla....
