Sonia rakes up intolerance bogey in I-Day statement

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS): Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi raised the intolerance bogey on the occasion of India's 74th Independence Day on Saturday, saying there is no freedom to write, question or disagree, while accusing the Modi government of being undemocratic.

"Today every countryman needs to look into the conscience and ask what freedom means? Is there freedom in the country today to write, to speak, to ask questions, to disagree, to have views, to seek accountability? As a responsible opposition, it is our responsibility that we make every effort and struggle to keep India's democratic independence intact," said Gandhi in a statement.

Accusing the government of being undemocratic, she alleged, "Friends, we have tested our democratic values from time to time in the last 74 years of independence and have continuously matured them. Today it seems that the government is standing contrary to democratic system, constitutional values and established traditions. It is also a test for Indian democracy."

She added that as a "responsible opposition", it is our responsibility that we make every "effort and struggle" to keep India's democratic values intact.

Gandhi also raked up the Galwan valley face-off with China while paying tributes to those bravehearts who laid down their lives for India. She also expressed confidence about overcoming the Covid pandemic and the economic hardships caused by it.

First and foremost - Congress party should elect their president democratically and start talking about democracy etc.. which may make some sense otherwise both mom & son's speech (every now and then) looks stupid and idiotic.

No wonder why congress reduced to 50 seats in parliament in consecutive second term, be ready for third time repeat the same feat in 2024 with such absurd comments. Freed of speech, write, oppose was snatched from public in 1975 during emergency, whoever, opposed was behind the bars. our own George Fernandes won by lakhs of votes being inside the jail and many others. Next Rae Bareli is not more congress fort. congress gone too far to correct their mistakes.

Do you see a reverse trend after Rajasthan debacle for BJP. Lotus failed to blossom in Rajasthan desert heat. That same heat will spread across India soon. Black money hoarded by BJP to buy MLAs will be burnt by that heat. People's mandate not BJP's tampered mandate.

The emergency introduced by congress were brightest 2 years period for India. Every sector was functioning perfectly, economy was at the peak, jobs data was highest, everybody was working hard including govt employees, no corruption, no scams and no frauds. In all to say country was ruled exactly as stipulated in the cosmatitution. Unlike afte 2014 where country is in emergency like situation for the worst reason and everything is going exactly the opposite and is in disaster path towards bankruptcy and lawlessness.
