Bantwal, Jul 15: An elderly man from Vittal near here died due to coronavirus infection at a hospital in Mangaluru. With this, the death toll in the district has reached 54. 

The elderly person was 73-years-old and a resident of Kasaba village of Vittal. A few days ago his son had tested positive for the disease. Later, seven members of the family also tested positive for coronavirus.

The elderly man was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru as he developed sickness. He did not respond to the treatment and died. This is the first case of coronavirus death in Vittal.

Trained activists of PFI carried out the final rites of the deceased person in the masjid. Officials of revenue and police departments took necessary precautions during the funeral.
