Mangaluru: School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya continues in top 35 Indian PG Colleges of Social Work

Mangaluru, Jul 10: School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya (Autonomous), here, took part in India Today – MDRA survey this year. The results were declared in the India Today Magazine of July 6 edition.

The institute had filed its participation in Social Work in the PG category.

Among the professional programmes (Master in Social Work programme) School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya stands at the 12th place out of the Best 35 colleges listed in the country. Being a pioneer institute in Social work in Karnataka State, it has maintained the first place in the entire district.

The MDRA team conducts surveys of the best institutes in various categories for under-graduate and post-graduate streams. The survey was based on an objective questionnaire evaluation and perceptual evaluation with a weightage of 50:50 for general programmes and 60:40 for professional programmes.

The objective questionnaire includes components such as student selection process, student diversity, fees and funding, quality of teaching, learning experience, personality development and leadership, academic progression, internship and placements and new age courses.

The management, Institute of Social Service Mangaluru, has acknowledged the entire team of faculty, students, stakeholders, alumni, extension service staff and all those who have been responsible for this achievement.

School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, was established in 1960 by the Society of Daughters of the Heart of Mary, an International Catholic Religious Society, founded in France in 1790 during the French Revolution. It is the pioneer Post Graduate Centre for Social Work Education in Karnataka, listed as a ‘Minority’ Institution. It believes in the dictum – “Small is Beautiful”. It is situated on a six-acre campus wherein, besides the college, there are service centres such as Kindergarten, Family Service Agency, Family Counselling Centre and Childline.

School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru is an autonomous college which was awarded the status of 'College with Potential for Excellence' status by UGC, Government of India in 2010. It was accredited with A Grade by NAAC for three consecutive cycles.

Besides the Master of Social Work (MSW) programme, the college also offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Science in Criminology & Forensic Science and Master of Science in Counseling. In addition to this, short term evening courses - PG Diploma in Human Resource Management, PG Diploma in Counselling and PG Diploma in CSR, PG Diploma in NGO Management and various diploma and certificate programmes are also offered. The college has been offering doctoral programmes, PhD in Social Work since 1983 being affiliated to Mangalore University. Since 2010, it is also recognized as a Centre for Research for the award of PhD degree in Social Work and for Research studies by Mangalore University. The Adelaide Centre for Research and Publications conducts Major, Minor and Micro Research Studies and Projects.

The institute has a very strong network of Alumni Association of Mangalore, Bangalore Chapter, Mysore Chapter, Kodagu chapter and Dubai Chapter. They have been the strong pillars for placements of their students. They carry the light of ‘Roshni’ far and wide.
