I had the good fortune in the last few years to have my path cross with that of Prof. Hegde and what a privilege and delight this has been. It is difficult for one to believe that such a level of intellect (like that of Prof. Hegde) can be packaged together with an equal level of kindness, compassion, love, energy, desire to help individuals world-wide as well as protect individuals from drugs and medical interventions that may delay recovery or, even worse, harm them.

However, when one meets Prof. Hegde, one to his/her great amazement can see that this is entirely possible, but sadly not very common. I personally feel humbled to say that I know Prof. Hegde and call him my friend. I had the good fortune to personally experience the entire “Hegde package” when last year I suffered from a cervical vertebrae problem. He called me nearly every day from India to check on my recovery and provide me with encouragement to stay away from surgery and allow the natural processes of healing to do their job. At the same time he provided me with information and guidance for using non-invasive therapies, and made contact with individuals who could help me. Less than 3 months later, to my surprise, I felt good enough to travel to India to witness his son’s wedding, meet his family and friends, and learn of the Indian academic world. An amazing and treasured experience! My recovery continued and this trip was subsequently followed within the next few months by several overseas trips. Dear Monappa, thank you for allowing me to call you my friend and for being there for me. No one could have found a better person deserving this award. Congratulations. Me agapi. Yana

No award can truly validate what Dr. BM Hegde has contributed to the society. BM Hegde was my cardiologist. As a kid growing up with bicuspid aortic valve and running scared, he reassured me, just talked to me and gave me hope. That was 30 years ago. Ten years ago I had surgery and today i am as healthy as a horse. I am sure he doesn't know who I am or how immensely he had helped me. That is true service, giving people hope and helping people without expecting anything in return.... Thank you Dr. Hegde!!!!!! I am sure there are many more stories like mine..

Dr. Pratap Reddy is also credited with the biggest theft in the name of Public Private Partnership at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He took 15 acres of prime land from the government valued at Rs 800 crores with a written promise to treat one third of patients free of cost, and for last 15 years has been voilating that committment by bribing the politicians and depriving the poor people of Delhi of the medical treatment they need. He is no different from his Andhra brother Raju of Satyam and its only a matter of time that he will be exposed as the Supreme court of India is soon going to decide on his Delhi hospital case. Padma Shree can be managed by bribing politicians in India. Just before Raju of Satyam was exposed he was also awarded Excellent Corporate Governance Award by Indian government.

He is great speaker and Irene (my wife) and me had the privilege of having him propose The Toast for our diamond wedding.
