Bantwal: Police probing cattle theft stumble upon mega slaughterhouse

Bantwal, May 22: Police personnel of Vittal station, who were trying to crack a case of cattle theft, stumbled upon a huge slaughterhouse. They recovered about 200 cow pelts, eight cows and seized several vehicles. This incident happened at Salethur near Vittal on Thursday May 21.

Haris alias Muhammad Haris (22), a resident of Kolnadu Kattattila Matha, stands arrested during the raid. A police team, based on the tip off about the theft of cows, had raided a house in Kolnadu. Haris tried to flee from the spot during the raid. He fell to the ground in the farm when trying to escape, and suffered injury to his leg. He was then arrested. During questioning, it is said, he provided extensive details about the slaughterhouse.

On the basis of information provided by him, the police team raided a spot in Aittakumeru in Salethur. They found eight cows and 200 cow pelts at the spot. Four two-wheelers, an auto rickshaw, as well as an Ashok Leyland Dost vehicle, which reportedly were used for operating the slaughterhouse. Items which are used to prepare meat were also seized.

Reports say that some bigwigs are involved with the operation of the slaughterhouse and getting cattle stolen. Since sometime, they used to escape from the concerned in the guise of border area restrictions. The police who suspect the case to have link with several cases of cattle thefts, have intensified their investigation.

District superintendent of police Dr Laxmi Prasad, deputy superintendent of police Valentine D'Souza, circle police inspector T D Nagaraj and others visited the spot. Vittal police sub-inspector Vinod S K along with his team of policemen had conducted the operation.

It is said that after the police raided the said house and took a person into custody, the racketeers involved with cattle theft came up with offers to pay huge amount to drop the case. But the police have not shown any inclination to fall to the lure and have continued with the investigation into a racket which appears to be one of the biggest in the district.

All this happening because, there is a shortage of beef in the market. Let the government make arrangements to supply enough beef from the legal slaughter houses. Reduce the export and supply the same to the local market. Illegal slaughtering and cow theft will be stopped automatically.

Why should anybody get hurt by who eats what ? In Islamic countries where the flesh of a swine is forbidden from consumption, pork is sold in all supermarkets. Why ? Because they want people from around the world to come and do business there. Now, is it that India does not need people to come from outside to business ? I don't think so, because we have heard close to 50,000 people were evacuated when Covid-19 started. Did these people come invading, or they had business in our country ?

Forget foreigners. Indians consume a meat that is forbidden as per Hindu culture. When the constitution was enacted for multi-religions to coexist, and freedom of food was assured through it, nobody can stop anybody from eating anything. That too, when the country is exporting the very (supposedly) forbidden product. Not when a majority community supporting government is ruling at the center.

Please keep your emotional blackmailing for some other time.

Good news that Police have declined to the offers of the racketeers and initiated action against the culprits.

The Bad News is that there are many who would support the evil doers for all the bad deeds done by these culprits. How will this Nation progress if the evil is not dealt firmly?

There is no evidence to say that a Veggie is weak and man becomes weak without non veg . Will the non veg stand against a mad pure veg elephant to prove his strength? Man can equally be strong with veg too. Stop killing animals. Let these animals too survive and lead a peaceful life.

If slaughtering is banned, that means the country is looking at an additional 10 million cattle every year, at an approximate total cost of Rs 22,000 crore to care for them. The question, then, boils down to: “Inko paaley kaun”?

There is no religious significance eating cow meat. In the amid of lock down shocking news are coming the migrant worker in starvation is seen eating dead dogs meet on the road.

By considering the national crisis and acute food shortage and lack protein due to failed PDS scheme, the government should stop exporting the 'Beef' and fulfill the local demand.

If BJP's center government has no problem with more than $5 billion per annul 'Beef trade' and has no problem fulfilling the demand of North Eastern states then BJP's ruled states should also be exempted from unproductive cattle slaughter.

This will help the agrarian crisis of the farmers of India, also additional tax burden of maintaining the 'Gau shala'. At the same demand supply gap will discourage the illegal slaughter houses and reduce the crime rate.

Why isn't it not going inside your head, that theft is taking place because there is demand for the meat ? Meat not in local market but outside. Therefore, press the administration at the center as well as state, to ban export. They will steal for what ? Pickling ??

Why only Gujarat/Maharashtra should contribute to beef exports ? Let Karnataka too gain of the income.

I say this, because there has been scarcity in the market for the meat and its persistent. Not one day it came in abundance and cheap. This indicates that the mega slaughterhouse's meat goes outside the state. Whether it goes international or to other states is not known. As long as India does not stop export of the meat, all your love/worship is just a fake show.

Whose number is more ? Beef eaters, or cow worshipers ? If you the majority have not succeeded in putting a full-stop to beef export, please don't preach your cows-love here. The government is in majority to all new rules overnight without consulting the Parliament - why not to stop beef export ?

People start preaching with vegetarianism because non-veg causes animal killing which is a cruelty. Now, do you vegetarians pick fallen fruit/vegetables for consumption ? Don't you guys cause cruelty to a plant when you pluck a chilly, mango/banana, dig out a ginger root or even when you pluck flowers for worship ? Your argument is rather illogical. Animals show feelings, empathy, happiness etc. They are you with a tail and horns. They are mammals. Plants however develop fruits and vegetables so that their seeds are dispersed. This is biology 101. Animals do feel pain and the current methods of caging, tying and slaughtering animals are unnecessarily cruel. People are up in arms for being quarantined for just 14 days. Imagine living in a cage all your life. Mass meat factories are the major cause for diseases. I understand the need to defend non-veg but just think before making ridiculous statements about vegetarianism. A few veggies in a diet will help a person think better. Vitamin deficiency leads to very poor thought output. If you see the worlds most poor countries, they have access to meat but not fresh fruits and vegetables. Free range meat and ethical slaughter should be the future of non veg. Lab grown meat would be ideal. In highly developed countries like the Netherlands, animals are slaughtered with least amount of pain. They pay no heed to religious customs when there is ethics and science to follow.
