Udupi: Two suspects transporting beef during lockdown arrested

Udupi, Apr 9: Kaup station police personnel inspecting vehicles near Golden General Store, Muloor village, NH66 on a tip-off intercepted two persons transporting beef by scooter on April 8 at about 9 pm.

The rider riding the scooter no KA19 ET 4150 said his name was Mohammed Safwan(23). The co-rider said his name was Asghar Ali(39). Both are residents of Krishnapur, Surathkal.

Seven kilos of beef were found hidden in seven separate plastic covers under the seat of the scooter. They were being transported without a license. Police personnel confiscated the meat and arrested the suspects on charges of transporting beef without a license despite knowing the state government’s lockdown to prevent the spread of covid-19.

A case is registered at Kaup police station under crime register no 52/2020, IPC column 269, Prevention of cattle slaughter and cattle Preservation Act 1964 and Indian motor vehicles section 66 and 192(A).
