Mangaluru: 20 railway coaches to serve as isolation wards

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 2: Twenty railway coaches have arrived at the central railway station here. Two of these coaches have already been transformed into isolation wards for coronavirus suspects. The other coaches also would be converted into isolation wards in about a week's time.

The coaches will be kept at the second entry of central railway station, after which they will be handed over to health department, said public relations officer of souther railway's Palakkad division Gopinathan, on Wednesday April 1.

Indian Railway, Konkan Railway Corporation and Southern Railway have already issued circulars about opening of isolation wards in railway compartments.

The central government is compelled to set up isolation wards at the railway station as the number of coronavirus infection cases has been increasing in the district, which shares state border with Kerala. People of Kasargod district have been relying on Mangaluru for medical services, and a number of coronavirus affected persons from that state are being treated here.

The sleeper coaches are being converted by removing seats and providing quarantine facilities with toilets, bathrooms etc by modifying coach designs. These coaches also will have spaces for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff besides arrangements to fix medical equipment.

Something fishy here. They may be planning to bring patients from Kasaragod
by rail since there is fierce opposition to open the border. You must admire the tenacity of Kerala administration to dump their citizens on other's lap and keep Kerala free of trouble. When Kasaragod has highest number of infected people why fitted coaches are stationed in Mangalore where only handful cases are present?
The writing is on the wall. The district administration and the State must take immediate steps to push this coaches to Kasaragod where it is needed most.

Because Kerala people influence is more than our local. They are everywhere in DK. There are lot of students in schools and colleges. Because of good education, and to learn good English they prefer Karnataka education system. We are not against Kerala people. But it is duty of Kerala govt. to take care of their own people. When they stopped kannada teaching in border district there was some noise. Then people from Karnataka forgot about this.

Such coaches can be kept at kasargod railway station for the people of kasargod... It's difficult for them to come here in that suffering.... Why they want to bring the patients to Mangalore only?? What's the intention behind this?? Here, all of us took so much trouble for not getting infected and by not getting essentials on time.... Now, when I look at the news I am surprised...

Govt. Should Ask help from builders. There are so many new buildings are not occupied by owners or some or under finishing stage. Now the builders time to help the govt. Once the problem solved then the govt. Should sanitize the whole building and paint if necesssry. Even govt. Can take non occupied building on rent and make as quarantine or temp. Hospitals. Even in gulf countries 5 star hotels are converted in to quarantine area.
