Bengaluru, Mar 26: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar held a press conference at his residence in the city on Thursday, March 26 with regard to the coronavirus pandemic that has stalled the whole country.

"Activists from all corners of the state are calling me over telephone. Chief of many organizations are also getting in touch with me. The presidents of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and farmer organizations have also called me. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given instructions that each and every citizen of the country should try to be inside the house and isolate themselves. I will not elaborate anything on this right now," said Shivakumar.

He further said, "You are telecasting the working style of police force. They are beating and kicking the public. What crime these people have done? Control everyone. I will not discuss on the ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The workers of RSS are out for collection saying that they have taken permission. They are running around in vehicles saying that they will give five kg rice, salt and cooking oil to families. Whether chief minister B S Yediyurappa has given permission for this?

"All are ready to serve the society. But people of RSS are just loitering around. Coronavirus epidemic is the problem that is bothering the whole country as well as the world. We are saying that we will give all support. But your workers are getting political benefit out of this.

"The government has not taken a single plan of action till now. They have not taken advice from the opposition parties also. We are observing that there are differences between two ministers. Is this the issue of your party or the administration? There are highly intelligent ministers also. The government has divided the work to two ministers.

"When we receive or make call over the phone, we hear the sound of coughing. When we hear that our cough also increases. Coronavirus suspects have increased in our district also. Our drivers have also deserted Bengaluru. The infection is spread to villages also. I have closed down my office also. I will not conduct any press conference in future. I will just do press release. I am also afraid and that is why I am sitting far.

"It is tradition to call an all-party meeting when it comes to issues related to border, water and land. I urge the state government as well as PM Modi to call an all-party meeting,” he said.
